History of Quilt Barns
During family vacations, Donna Sue delighted in spying the colorful geometric Hex signs scattered throughout the Pennsylvania. So in 1989 when she and her mother, a 5th generation quilter, bought a farm with a tobacco barn in Ohio, she promised her mother that one day she would paint a quilt square on the barn. To honor her mother, Donna Sue worked with Peter Whan from the Nature Conservancy & other volunteers to bring the Adam County Quilt Barn sampler Project to life in 2003. Her vision was to create an imaginary clothesline of interconnecting barns decorated with quilt squares across Ohio & the nation, thus creating a National Quilt Barn Trail. And so it happened-there are colorful quilt squares on barns in 27 states and 2 Canadian Provinces.

.Dealers Choice Retreat
November 18-20th
A Designer sleep-over retreat with Monique Dillard of Open Gate Quilts. Monique will be teaching two quilts from her book Fat Quarter Winners, "Gin Rummy" or "Speed". All the quilts in her book are named after card games. How fun is that! Might have to throw in a card game or two! Monique will be at the retreat Friday the 18th & Saturday November 19th, leaving on Saturday evening.
Retreat Fee: $150
Fee includes hotel for two nights with double occupancy and meals.
Kits and other supplies are extra. Sign up early as space is limited to 16 people. Pre-cutting and other details for the weekend will be sent to each attendee closer to retreat. Contact the store to sign up, a $50 non-refundable deposit is required to hold your spot.
What makes this fat-quarter book different? From block to backing to binding, nothing is wasted. Each project includes Monique's "clever shortcuts." Each pair of blocks creates interesting secondary patterns when they're combined to reveal a more complex look. You'll get terrific results stitching up these traditional designs into cherished everyday quilts.
Here is a picture of the kit we have available in Gin Rummy

Barn Quilts
We see them all over the countryside. Do they make you ask questions? Why did they choose that quilt block? Is there a story behind that block? Do they quilt or have a family member that quilts?
If you asked yourself any of these questions you may find this new book a great read and enjoy putting together a few of the wonderful projects inside too!
Ann and Diane stopped by the store this past weekend to leave us their new book; Every Barn Tells A Story. I couldn't put it down once I started to read the stories. Want to order a copy? We would be glad to send you one. Contact the store to place your order. 641-394-6900
Retail $27.95 + $5 shipping if you would like it mailed to you.
Many of you may remember Ann (Crocus Lane Quilts) from the program she presented at Quilter's Window called, "They named me Marjorie". A fascinating story about her grandmother who was an orphan. Book retails for $18 + $5 shipping if you would like it mailed to you.
